What is a quote?

A quote is a commercial proposal detailing the prices and terms of a sale or service before it is carried out. Unlike an invoice, it does not commit the client to payment — it only becomes contractual once accepted (signed), and can then be converted into an invoice.

Good to know about quotes

Validity period

A quote usually states a validity deadline (often 30 days), beyond which the proposed prices are no longer guaranteed.

Accepted quote = commitment

Once signed by the client, the quote becomes a contractual commitment that can serve as proof in case of dispute.

Quote to invoice

Once accepted, the quote can be directly converted into an invoice to formalize the sale, without re-entering the information.

No fiscal value

Unlike an invoice, a quote has no accounting or fiscal value until it is followed by an invoice.

Multi-version quotes

Several versions of the same quote can be proposed (options, price variants) to let the client choose before validation.
